Diane Dinkins died on March 17, 2018 at St. Catherine’s Village surrounded by her family. She was eighty-five. She was born in Jackson, MS on September 29, 1932, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe T. Dehmer (Jennie Rimes Lampton Dehmer)
She attended St. Joe Catholic School and Bailey Junior High. She graduated from Villa Duchesne High School in St. Louis, MO. She attended Sophie Newcomb, New Orleans, LA and Ole Miss where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She graduated MSCW and did an internship in Dietetics at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
She was a member of the Junior League of Jackson. In 1955 she was Queen of the Junior League Carnival Ball. She was Queen of the Ladies of the Realm in the Memphis Cotton Carnival.
She married Theo H. Dinkins II in June of 1955. They have been married almost 63 years. She was a faithful member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church and enjoyed her Church Circle and small group meetings. She helped her dear friend, Gloria Martinson, when Gleaners Ministry was first introduced to Jackson. She was a life-long member of the Demitasse Luncheon Club. She devoted most of her life to working in her yard, raising her five children and playing bridge with friends. She enjoyed quietly doing for others with a generous and loving spirit. Diane and Theo moved to St. Catherine’s Village ten years ago where they knew old friends and made many new ones. She and Theo were daily communicates at the Mass in the Chapel at St. Catherine’s. Diane was often seen taking home-baked treats to those who lived there. She loved cooking her favorite recipes for family gatherings.
After her cancer diagnosis, she would always express how grateful she was for each day and expressed how blessed she had been.
Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Theo H. Dinkins II; brother, Joe T. Dehmer, Jr. (Dot-t); her uncle, Leslie Lampton, Jr. (Dot Lee).
Her children are Vicky Vance (Buddy), Ted Dinkins (Nancy), Dave Dinkins (Gigi), Ginger Parham (Buddy) and John Dinkins (Ali).
Her grandchildren are Allie West (Chad), Miller Vance, Clayton Dinkins (Rachelle), Katie Dever, Matt Parham, Ginny Sullivan (Matthew), Barton Dinkins, Rimes Dinkins, Cameron Dinkins Bonner Dinkins, Coleman Dinkins, McNeill Dinkins and Weathersby Dinkins.
Her great-grandchildren are William Dever, Walter Dever, Collins West, Ned West, Win Dinkins and Theo Dinkins.
Pallbearers are Barton Dinkins, Bonner Dinkins, Clayton Dinkins, Rimes Dinkins, Matt Parham and Miller Vance.
Visitation will be at St. Richard’s Catholic Church on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 3:30 P.M. until 4:30 P.M.
A second visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton, MS on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. until the funeral mass at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in the Dinkins Family Plot at the Canton City Cemetery.
