Herbert Power, Jr.

Herb Power was born January 24, 1921 in McCool, MS.  After a very long and meaningful life, he passed from this earth on Sept. 6, 2018 at the exceptional age of 97.

Herb was the 9th of the 12 children of Herbert Power, Sr., and Maude Black Power and survived all his brothers, sisters and parents.  After graduating from McCool High School in 1939, Herb moved to Jackson where he began working for the Western Electric Company.  When WWII broke out, Herb enlisted in the Army as a Signal Corp instructor.  On D-Day, he jumped into Normandy with the 101st Airborne. 

He returned to Jackson to resume his employment where he met his future wife, Glory Anne Beanland.  They were married 45 wonderful years and shared three children and their families before she passed away in 1991.   Herb was blessed with his second wife, Barbara Bollinger, his faithful and loving companion for the last 27 years

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Bollinger Power and his children with Glory, Judy Power Morrow (Tom), Becky Power Lankford (Phillip), and Bill Power (Sheryl). He is also survived by Barbara’s son Al Halbert and was preceded in death by Barbara’s daughter Cathy Halbert. He is also survived by his grandchildren Stephen Morrow (Blakeley); Glorianne Morrow (Max), Erin Cleveland (Chris); Megan Holcombe (Biff); Julie Power (Frank) and his great grandchildren Madison Cleveland, Eva Cleveland, Adia Holcombe and Lennon Holcombe.

Herb’s presence and influence in Canton and beyond will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be at Breeland Funeral Home, Canton, MS from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, Sept. 9th.  Funeral service will be at First Presbyterian Church of Canton at 1:00 pm on Monday, Sept. 10th, with graveside and interment at Canton Cemetery following.
