Madge Pepper Obituary

Madge Pendarvis Pepper was born June 4, 1919.  After living a full, loving, giving, and cherished life of 99 years, she went to be with her Lord on Monday, October 15, 2018.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Philip W. Pepper and her parents, Eddie and Georgia Walker Pendarvis.

Madge’s life was devoted to her Lord and her family. She insisted on going to her church every Sunday even at the age of 99.  As a young woman, she worked as a secretary in New Orleans during World War II. After marrying Philip, the couple lived in Vaughan, MS until they bought property north of Canton and built a home and raised a family. She enjoyed her life as a wife and mother, homemaker, doing needle arts and gardening. She spent endless loving hours caring for her husband, Philip, after he was crippled early in his life. She was a great support to her four children by serving as Girl Scout leader, 4-H club leader, and home room mother—once to all four at the same time. Her competitive nature ensured that no problem or challenge was too big to tackle thru persistence and determination.  She was demanding yet forgiving, strong in deed yet tender in heart.  She had a magic touch.  She could make steak out of hamburger, craft warm quilts out of cold scraps, create hope out of adversity, and force dreams to reality. Her strong character and loving spirit provided a model that greatly influenced her children and grandchildren.

Madge is survived by two daughters, Julie (Anthony) Hanson and Susan Kaye Pepper (Milton McFarland); two sons, Philip Pepper, Jr., and Tim (Linda) Pepper; four grandsons and one granddaughter; and six great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Thursday, October 18, 2018 and resume on Friday from 12:00 noon until the 1:00 pm funeral service at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton.  Graveside services will be immediately afterwards at Thornton Chapel United Methodist Church, where Madge attended services all of her life.

Memorials may be made to Thornton Chapel Methodist Church, P. O. Box 244, Canton, MS  39046.
