Cathy Hamilton Stroud died September 13, 2017
Dr. Catherine Hamilton Stroud was born on December 22, 1958 in Jackson, Mississippi, where she grew up and graduated from Jackson Preparatory School. An avid Bulldogs fan, she graduated from Mississippi State University in 1980 and was a proud member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. After attending State, Dr. Stroud attended the University of Mississippi Medical School, where she met her beloved husband, Larry. The two wed in 1984, and moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where she completed her medical residency. While in South Carolina, the couple had their first child, Caroline, and because they wanted her to grow up with cousins and family, they returned to Madison in 1988. Their second child, Ben, was born in 1992.
While practicing medicine, Dr. Stroud was attacked by a patient at the VA Medical Center in January 1995. While many people would have struggled after such a violent incident, Cathy demonstrated unparalleled resilience and grace through finding meaning in serving others through organizations such as the Junior League of Jackson, co-chairing the Designer Show House at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, and serving on the board at Goodwill. She was also an ardent member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and loved attending various luncheons with her dearest friends. Despite her many accomplishments, Cathy was most proud of her two children, Caroline and Ben.
Cathy is preceded in death by her mother, Sally Ann Hamilton. She is survived by her father Willie Hamilton of Madison, husband Larry Stroud of Madison, Daughter Caroline Goldsmith and Son in Law Marc Goldsmith of San Luis Obispo, California, and son Ben Stroud of Milwaukie, Oregon. Brother, Stewart
Hamilton (Jamie) of Austin, TX. Sisters, Gigi Hamilton Dinkins (Dave) of Madison, MS. Sally Ann Hamilton Herrington of Sumrall, MS. She also left behind numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends she considered family.
