Betty Ann Irby passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21st, 2024 at her home in Brandon, Mississippi. She is survived by her children; Colebert Talmadge Irby Jr. (LeighAnn), Amanda Lynn Gates (Chris), Betty Carol Simpson (Bill), grandchildren; Cole Irby (Bailey), Leah Brooke Irby (Brayden), Casey Echols (Cody), Ian Gates, Evan Gates, Justin Simpson (Taylor), Maggie Simpson (Garrett), and her great grandchild, Riggs. A special heartfelt thank you to her loving caregivers, Lou Boykin and Brecken Harrell, who are more than caregivers but, a part of our family and will forever be, we love you both. She is also survived by her twin brother, Bobby Hall.
Betty was born on January 18th, 1939 in Carthage, Mississippi. She was one of three children born to James Melvin and Annie Hall. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Colebert Talmadge Irby and her brother, Jim Hall. After graduating from Canton High School, Betty went to work at South Central Bell as a switchboard operator. She then worked at Canton Exchange Bank (Trustmark) for almost 50 years, where she not only made an impact in the company but, on the hearts of everyone in the community. Bettys kindness and sweet spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew her through the kind words she spoke, the wonderful meals she cooked, and the true love she and her husband had for one another. Never speaking a bad word about anyone and never going anywhere without holding grandaddy’s hand, you could feel nothing less than the true love of Jesus. From an early age, her children got to witness a great love that people often wait a lifetime to find and one that some may never get to experience at all. As a woman of true grace, lovingkindness, and elegance, she exhibited more than a servants heart; the true backbone of our family.
