Billie Jean McMullen

Billie Jean Casbeer McMullen was born in Goldthwaite, Texas on July 12, 1935 and departed on June 9, 2024. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Canton, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and youth director for many years and played in the handbell choir. She met her husband, Herbert McMullen, at Canton High School. They married on August 11, 1957.

Billie Jean attended Canton High School and Copiah-Lincoln Community College, where she proudly served as a majorette in the marching band. She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women with a degree in education. She started her professional teaching career in Farmhaven, where she also coached basketball. She spent the majority of her career as a teacher at Canton Elementary School. Even after her retirement, she often encountered former students who remembered her loving spirit and talent for making them feel special. Her generous spirit carried over to friends and family; her door was always open and she was happiest surrounded by loved ones.

She was preceded in death by: her husband Herbert McMullen; her parents, M.L. Casbeer and Elaine O’Quin Casbeer and siblings, Bina Minninger and Marcus Casbeer.
Survivors include: sons, Chap McMullen and Lee McMullen; daughter, Jean Elaine McMullen Ellis; sibling, Sybil Eppinger; son-in-law Terry Ellis; grandchildren, Daniel McMullen (Elizabeth), Zan Ellis and Jesse McMullen; great-grandchildren Wilder and Chase McMullen; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and on Thursday, June 13 at First Church of Canton at 1:00 PM prior to the Memorial Service at 2:00 PM.
