Carl Perry Murphy, 95, passed away October 29, 2022 at Madison County Nursing Home. Visitation will be at Breeland Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Thornton Chapel Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
A native of Leake County, Mr. Murphy enlisted with the U. S. Navy at the age of 16. He was a Machinist Mate 3rd Class and served during World War II until he was discharged on July 1, 1946. After his military service he worked at Mississippi Products and then at Madison Furniture. In 1965 he began his career farming until retirement in 1992. During retirement he enjoyed traveling in his motor home, visiting every state many times.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by: parents, Daniel Perry Murphy and Victoria Brooks Murphy; sister, Doris Murphy Jones; brother, James Matthew Murphy; son, Jody Brooks Murphy; and his first wife Marilyn Black Murphy who he was married to for 59 years.
Survivors include: wife, Bettye June Murphy; sons, Daniel Perry Murphy (Jo Anne), Thomas Matthew Murphy (Deborah) Thomas passed away on Oct. 30, 2022, Gerald Wayne Murphy (Ann), Michael Carl Murphy (Laura), and DeWayne Eady (Gina); daughter, Krista Sanders (Tim); 17 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
