Caroline Hailey Agnew

Caroline Hailey Agnew passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 74.  She is survived by husband Jim Bob Agnew, daughter Laura Agnew, son Cliff (Katy) Agnew, granddaughters Ann Trotter Agnew and Jane Agnew, and brothers Tip Hailey (Muffett) and Mark Fulton (Ellen).  She is also survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.  Caroline is remembered for her vivacious spirit and ardent love of her family and friends.

Caroline was born in Canton, Mississippi, on December 12, 1949, to Clifton and Sam Hailey.  She graduated from Canton High School in 1967 and attended the “W” where her hometown friendships grew and new, lifelong friendships emerged.  There was little she loved more than engaging in these friendships.  Throughout her life, if she did not have a reunion, birthday party, or simple get together at the lake planned with her friends, it was only because she was in the process of planning the next one. 

On November 27, 1976, she married Jim Bob Agnew.  She and Jim Bob moved throughout the southeast with their young family, making stops in North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia.  No matter where they were living, family and friends were always welcome and entertained.  During summers and at Christmas, Caroline found her way home to spend time with family and friends, and to introduce her children to the people and the place that she loved so deeply.   In 1992, Caroline, Jim Bob and the children moved home to Canton.  Caroline treasured the time spent with her family around the table at Wednesday Dinner and Sunday Lunch, during the holidays, and at other family events.

Quick to turn up her favorite songs and dance, Caroline was the life of the party.  She could always find the time to sub in a bridge game or meet for lunch.  There were few, if any, reasons to miss Martini Tuesday.  She loved, and was loved by, many.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 8, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton, Mississippi, with funeral service immediately following.  Interment will be in the Canton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to a non-profit organization of your choice.
