Charles Maris Obituary

Charles William Maris, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 27, 2018.  He was above all a man who deeply loved his family, church and friends.  Along with Kitty, his devoted wife of 65 years, he was the focal point of many family gatherings and valued keeping in touch and making sure that everyone was appreciated and cared for.  His special sense of humor brightened many a day.

Born in Canton, Mississippi, Charles graduated from Canton High School, Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, and The University of Mississippi.  He served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy.  He pursued a very successful career as an accountant at the Filtrol Corporation, Chevron, Weyerhaeuser and the Mississippi Department of Health.

He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing, and in later years ocean cruising in the Caribbean with his wife.  He and his family lived in Canton, Brookhaven, Meridian, Pelahatchie and Madison, Mississippi as well as Lafayette and New Orleans, Louisiana.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canton where he also sang in the choir.

Survivors include: wife, Kitty Davis Maris; daughters, Linda (Jerry) Perez and Margaret (Chuck) Terry; daughter-in-law, Stacy White Maris; grandchildren, Charles W. Maris, III, Katie Perez Hair, Trey (Keri) Perez, Sarah (Matthew) Runnels, Katherine (Adam) Horlock, and Laura Terry; great-grandchildren, Amanda Hair, Bella and Maia Perez, and Davis, Lynlee and Mary Claire Runnels.  He is also survived by sisters, Druscilla Thompson and Martha Maris.

He was preceded in death by; son, Charles William Maris, Jr., parents, Milo C. Maris and Susan K. Maris; sister, Mary Louise Cooper; and brother, Milo Vernon Maris.

Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church of Canton, MS on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 1:30 pm until the 2:30 funeral service.  Burial will be in the Canton Cemetery.
