Charles Nolan Shoemaker, age 90, died peacefully on April 17, 2025, at the Community Living Center of the Veterans Hospital in Jackson, MS. He was the youngest of six siblings born to Sam and Willie Mae Shoemaker on May 18, 1934, in Leesburg, MS. He served in the US Army as a sharpshooter and a cook. He was a member of the Leesburg Baptist Church. He retired from the trucking business and then worked with David Cook Farming up until two years ago.
Affectionately known as GooGoo, he is preceded in death by his siblings and parents, his wife of 67 years, Janice Shoemaker, and son-in-law, Tim Canoy. Survivors include; daughters Gayle Canoy and Dottie Feduccia (Larry) of Canton; grandchildren Lauren Canoy, Mason Canoy (Casey) of Canton, Jacob Feduccia (Kelsi) of Madison, and James Feduccia of Orono, Maine; great grandchildren, Sawyer and Kinsley Canoy and Whitt Feduccia and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Betty Griffin and Monica Miggins for the loving care they gave, as well as Dr. Burnett and the caring staff of the Veterans Hospital. They went above and beyond with their care in his last days. They would also like to thank Jennifer and Jimmy Fox for always being there.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and telling stories about his bounty. In his later years, he enjoyed watching women’s college basketball, softball, the WNBA, hummingbirds, and the antics of his great-grandchildren.
