Charlie went home to be with the Lord on May 13, 2025, after an extended illness. Born on September 27, 1966, in Canton, MS to Martha Lucille Waldrop Goodson and Charlie Edward Goodson, Sr., Charlie was the youngest of seven and the only son who was naturally very loved and spoiled by his sisters. He graduated from Canton Academy in 1984, attended Holmes Community College and graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College in 1988.
Charlie married Nora Langford Goodson on July 3, 2004, at Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church in Ridgeland. He and Nora enjoyed time together and raising his daughter, Haleigh, who he taught one of his favorite past times, hunting. He enjoyed deer hunting with both bows and guns and maintaining and working on any mechanical engines. Charlie had a green thumb and grew exceptional tomatoes which they enjoyed. He also loved spending time with his family.
Gifted with an eye for detail and problem solving, Charlie’s abilities as a diesel mechanic allowed him to work offshore and travel to Australia, Curacao, Mexico, and the Gulf of Mexico. He began his career as a diesel mechanic for KLLM Transportation and was later employed with Noble Drilling as a motorman and advanced subsea engineer. Charlie also worked at Paragon Offshore Drilling as a rig mechanic and completed his career in August 2022 with Nabors Offshore Drilling.
Charlie was a lifetime member of Center Terrace Baptist Church in Canton and also attended Highland Baptist Church in Jackson with Nora and his mother-in-law.
His parents and three sisters, Deborah Goodson Green, Pamela Goodson Hardy and Fran Goodson Parks, preceded him in death. Charlie is survived by his wife, Nora Langford Goodson, daughter Haleigh Nichole Watkins (TJ) of Mathison, MS; beloved mother-in-law Virginia Langford; sisters Charlotte Goodson Simmons (Johnny Ray) of Duck Hill, MS, Karen Goodson Morrow (James) of Clinton, MS, Carol Goodson Barham of Canton, MS; aunt Helen Waldrop of Canton, brother-in-law, James Hardy of Canton, MS; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Services for Charlie Goodson will include a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton, MS, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Visitation will also be held at Center Terrace Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service with interment in Canton City Cemetery immediately following the service.
The family would like to express appreciation to James Hardy, Tina Hudson and Sharon Hudson for the compassion and care shown to Charlie during the last season of his illness.
Memorials may be sent to Gideons International or The Alzheimer’s Association.
