Charlotte Brown Obituary

Charlotte Dale Crocker Brown of Canton, MS passed away peacefully on July 3, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. Charlotte was born in Water Valley Mississippi on March 22, 1931. She graduated from Yazoo City High School where she was a majorette with the band. Charlotte attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College where she met the love of her life Billy Brown. They were married in August 1950 upon his return from U. S. Army Service in Korea.

They were blessed with four children: Bill, Suzanne, Jim and Bob. In later years Charlotte went back to college to pursue her Bachelor of Arts in Education and graduated in 1969. Her first job was with Canton Academy teaching 5th grade. In 1974 Charlotte was awarded her Master of Education degree from Mississippi College.

Charlotte served her community as a teacher and as principal in both public and private schools. After 40 years she officially retired from education in 1996.

Charlotte was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Delta Kappa Gamma, Copiah-Lincoln Community College Alumni of the year 2011, Doaks Treaty Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Samuel J. Ridley Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Canton Garden Club. As a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Canton, Charlotte was active in the choir, Sunday School, the Presbyterian Women and also served as a deacon. Charlotte and Billy were married for 67 years until his death in 2017. We celebrate their long-awaited reunion!

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Grace Crocker, her husband William Henry "Billy" Brown Jr. Her brothers-in-law James Brown and Pete Leech, sister-in-law, Margaret Eleanor Sullivan, her niece, Rebecca Sullivan McDaniel, her nephew Robbie Thomas and son-in-law John W. Avent.

Charlotte is survived by her siblings, Betty Crocker Abdo (Nick), Burlon "Sonny" Crocker, Glenda Crocker Thomas (George) and her sisters-in-law Lenell Brown Leech and Mary Grace Horrell Brown. Her children, William H "Bill" Brown III (Jane), Suzanne Brown Avent, James Lester "Jim" Brown (Melinda), and Robert Kyle "Bob" Brown (Tina). Her grandchildren Angie Brown Weidel (Joe), Kris Brown (Melissa), Justin Ballard (Rita), Wesley Ballard (Heidi), Wes Avent, Lee Avent, Lindsey Grace Brown Darby (Jared), Clif Brown (Lauren). Great Grandchildren, Brennen, Charli, Katie, Kiersten, Kayla, Kassidy, Kelsey, Isabel, Harris, Camden, Mary Collins, Baker, Branch, Miles, Owen, Molly Claire, Ally, and a host of cousins nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Charlotte Dale Crocker Brown will be held at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton on Thursday July 7, 2022 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm and also on Friday one hour prior to the services. Funeral Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Canton on Friday July 8, 2022 at 11 o'clock a.m. Memorials may be made in Charlotte's memory to First Presbyterian Church of Canton, MS.
