Delowen "Ducky" Longgrear Obituary

Ducky (Delowen) Longgrear passed away with grace and dignity August 19, 2022 at Baptist Hospital after an extraordinary fight with heart disease.  Visitation will be Tuesday August 23, 2022 at Breeland Funeral Home beginning at 9:30am until the 11:00am chapel service followed by the burial at the Canton Cemetery.

He would be horrified for somebody to proclaim his life to be anything special, but to those who knew him it was more than exceptional.  He has spent the last thirty plus years giving, helping, and serving others. A recovering alcoholic himself, his unswerving commitment to those who struggled with alcohol was the stuff of legend. While his health limited him in the last few years, countless people have benefited from stories of his own struggles told with  humor and humility—which was his trademark.  His personal relationship with The Lord was that of  two old friends.  I Thessalonians 5:17 says to pray without ceasing.  We believe Ducky did just that—literally about everything!  He had a fortified spirit (positive, obedient, teachable, and humble).  His favorite question was “How’s your spiritual condition?”. Only one with his impeccable spiritual condition would have the confidence to ask that question.  Ducky believed the Lord’s grace was sufficient for us all.  We are so proud to have called him husband, brother, father, Dan Dan, uncle, and friend. He ran the good race and has received his crown, and now we all know that he is really “just right”!

He is survived by his “precious” wife Kay; sisters, Mary Jane Garland and Frances Hicks ; brother; Jimmy Jerkins ; son Mark Longgrear ; daughters Shannon Bailey (Jeff) and Paige Self.

Grandchildren:  Meagan Long (William), Zach Longgrear, Andy Bailey (Katy), Sage Longgrear, Betsy Paige Bailey, Daniel Self, Matthew Bailey, and John Rucker Self.  Great-grandchildren:  Mazie Long, Millie Kay Long, Easton Bailey and Elliott Bailey.
