Ed A. "Tony" Montgomery, 79, of Canton, Mississippi, won his battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2024, surrounded by family.
Born on February 10, 1945, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, Tony was the son of T.P. and Martha Jean Montgomery. He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Montgomery; son Chris Montgomery (Bonnie) and their children, Anne Blakely, Mary Katherine, and Reid; daughter Stacy Holston (Lee) and their children, Sarah, Hannah, and James; son David Redd and his son, Will; daughter Rebecca Redd and her son, Sam Hall; his twin brother, Tom Montgomery (Linda); sisters Byrd Howie and Daisy Braswell (Dan); and his first wife, Karen Montgomery. Tony was a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter.
A graduate of Mississippi State University, Tony earned a B.S. in Animal Husbandry and Entomology and was a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He spent much of his career working in farm management, chemical sales, cotton scouting, and cotton farming in Yazoo County, MS, where he earned a reputation for his work ethic and integrity.
Tony was an active member of the Canton Christian Center, where he deepened his faith and devotion to the Lord. He was known for his joyful spirit, especially his enthusiastic (and often off-key) singing, which brought warmth and smiles to all who knew him. Tony's love for life, his genuine kindness, and his unwavering faith were evident in his daily interactions. He never met a stranger and was always quick to offer a word of encouragement or a story that could brighten anyone’s day.
Tony’s family takes comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of his Savior, where there is no more pain, only peace. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the joy and love he brought to the world.
Visitation will be at Canton Christian Center on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 9:00 am until the 10:00 am funeral service. Burial will be in the Sharon Cemetery.
