Elizabeth S. McKay, 78 and older than dirt, passed away on December 26th, 2023 with her husband and daughter by her side. Thus fulfilling her promise to not make it another year.
Elizabeth was born Lizzie Arleath, so named by her daddy. She had the distinction of being the only one of her five siblings to have been born in Mississippi and lived all of her life in Canton. During high school, Liz enjoyed working at The Goody Shop. She graduated from the old Canton High School in 1964. She married the love of her life, John in 1980 and later welcomed their only daughter, Kim. Liz was a member of the Jaycees and a Girl Scout leader for many years. She worked at Piggly Wiggly as a cashier and book keeper for most of her career. After her retirement, Liz enjoyed talking on the phone, shopping online, playing FarmVille, going for long car rides, complaining about people getting on “her last nerve”, being dramatic, and playing a good game of competitive sickness. She finally won. But nothing gave her as much joy as being with her grandchildren. Lizzie was a cherished wife, dedicated mother, devoted grandmother, sweet aunt, and loving friend. She will be missed.
Liz was preceded in death by her mama, Lula Mae Smith, and her siblings, George Smith, Walter Smith, Minnie Pearl Pickard, and William "Bill" Smith.
She is survived by her husband of forty-three years, John and daughter Kimberly Bradford and husband Gary, as well as her grandchildren, Sophie, Carson, and Declan. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services will be held at Apostolic Lighthouse Church. Visitation will be Friday, December 29th from 5pm-7pm and the funeral will be Saturday, December 30th at 11am.
