Gatha Leroy Hearst passed away on June 8, 2024 at the age of 83 from complications of his battle with Lewy Body dementia at home with his loving family at his side.
Gatha was born in Oil City, MS on September 7, 1940. He graduated from Benton High School and continued his education at Holmes Jr. College in Goodman. He worked for the USDA ScS/NRCS for fifty years before retiring.
He was a loving person who loved his family, friends, and Savior. He will be dearly missed by family and friends and all who knew him.
Gatha is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Watts Hearst of 58 years; daughter, Laurie Lea Mosby and Husband Will Mosby of Madison; three grandchildren, John Mosby of Franklin, TN, Sara Grace Mosby of Canton, and David Miller Mosby of Madison; sisters, Melba Mood of Yazoo City, Edna Rogers of Yazoo City; brother-in-law, Carl Middleton of Yazoo City; nieces and nephews; and his never failing family friend, Robert Moss; and his furry friend, Lili Bit, Traditions Health Hospice family that he met only eight days before his death.
In addition to his parents, E.L. and Connie Hearst he was preceded in death by sister Rita Middleton.
Gatha was a true sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf with his group every Wednesday.
A funeral will be held at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton, MS on Wednesday, June 12 at 11:00 am with visitation beforehand at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Black Jack cemetery.
