Harold Ray Tyner of Canton, MS passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Sunday, February 11, 2024. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Sarah McCormick Tyner; parents Fred and Bessie Gillon Tyner; and his sister Jeannene Cathey.
He is survived by his children Caron Weisenberger (Joe), Ray Tyner (Shelly), Sarah Stewart (Andy) and Fred Tyner; Grandchildren Daniel Tyner (Emily), Blake Tyner (Beth), Morgan Tucker (Andrew), Summer Stewart, Savannah Stewart, Kendall Spell (Kelly), April Ryan (Dustin); sister JoAnn Tyner Weeks; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Tyner was born on December 31, 1931 in Grenada County and moved to Madison County after serving in the Army National Guard, Dixie Division, and attending Mississippi State. He joined his father as a farmer and purchased his own farm nearby in 1957, having a successful career in agriculture. He was the recipient of many awards including most progressive farmer and featured in National Agricultural publications. Mr. Tyner was actively involved in the community, serving on various boards and worked with the Soil Conservation Agency, receiving a lifetime achievement award. Mr. Tyner loved to grow things and always had a large garden and orchards with fruit and nut trees and always shared the plentiful bounty with friends and family.
He was also an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish as well as search for artifacts. After his retirement he began doing lapidary work and enjoyed making jewelry and participating in the Gems and Mineral Society.
Most of all, Mr. Tyner loved his family and friends. He was very loving and generous and always wanted everyone to be happy.
Please join our family in a celebration of his life. Visitation will be held at Breeland Funeral Home Wednesday February 14, 2024 at 1:00 until the 2:00 chapel service. Burial will be in the Canton Cemetery following the service.
