James Manning, Jr. Obituary

James Andrew Manning Jr. (also known as Andy Manning) passed away at the age of 61, on
June 20 th , 2024.
Andy was born on August 7 th , 1961 to James Andrew Manning Sr and Dorothy Manning Hill in
San Jose, California – where he spent a great deal of his adolescence before moving to
Greenville, MS in the 1970s, and eventually settling in Kosciusko, MS in 1994.
After some time spent in miscellaneous professions such as tankerman of the US Military, and
electrician, Andy went on to pursue a career as a towboat captain for Kirby Inland Marine
–where he remained “Captain Andy” until his retirement in 2017.
Apart from sharing his dinner with his dog – Silver, telling cheesy dad jokes, appreciating a good
sense of humor, and wearing brightly colored Hawaiian shirts and crocs without a care in the
world, Andy enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, riding his motorcycle, fishing
for crappie, indulging in history, and partaking in horticulture.
Andy was an astounding son, brother, husband, father, pops, and friend to anyone who needed
one. He loved fiercely, corrected gracefully (mostly), led passionately, and gave with all he had.
Andy possessed such a free-willed spirit, filled with kindness and mindfulness. He lived his life
simply, fully, and selflessly – impacting the lives of many people who admired him just as much
as they were inspired by him. To know him, was to love him; and if you didn’t – well, “you
know what they say in Russia” because knowing him, and especially being loved by him, was a
gift like no other – just as he was, a man like no other.
While being eternally reunited with his wife – Robin Elizabeth (Liz) Manning, father – James
Andrew Manning Sr, sisters – Deborah Manning Clark, and Diane Manning Stoll, nephew –
Blake Manning, Mamaw and Papaw – Leroy and Verna Helms, and aunt – Betty Jean Helms;
Andy’s spirit will continue to live on in his surviving loved ones: mother – Dorothy Manning
Hill, brothers – Myron Kendall Manning (Karen Manning), Darrell Glenn Manning (Anne
Manning), Dale Lynn Manning (Amy Manning), sister – Dana Evertz (Karl Evertz), children –
James (Jimmy) Andrew Manning the 3 rd (Katie Manning), Sean Patrick Manning (Lindsey
Manning), Brandi Nicole Chapman (Tim Chapman), Katie Nicole Sanders (Neal Sanders),
Kristen Jennings (Mason Jennings), and grandchildren – Gage and Aiden Chapman, Paytan,
Boston, and Griffin Sanders, Haisten and Gracie Gilliland, Milly, Livy, Evie, Andrew, and
Waylon Manning, many beloved nieces and nephews, and a towboat load.

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but
the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13
