John Charles McPhail, age 90, passed away on September 21, 2023. John was born on August 29, 1933 to Earl and Liddie McPail. He grew up in Edinburg, MS where he met and married his childhood sweetheart Rosie Jauquine Ross. They spent a year in Germany while John was in the Army. In 1963, they settled in Flora, MS where John taught highschool math and coached for eight years.
In 1971, they moved to Canton, MS to raise their four children. While in Canton, John was a school headmaster and a State Farm insurance agent. He was also a very active member of the Canton Lion’s Club for over fifty years. The family attended First Presbyterian Church where John taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon and Elder.
John and Jauquine moved to St. Catherine’s Village where John served as President of the Residents Committee.
John will be best remembered as being a great man, the best Dad, and a wonderful husband. He had such an impact on so many young people and family members.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Liddie McPhail; a son, Johnny Dale; brothers, Darwin McPhail (Irene) and Logan McPhail (Mavis); and his sisters, Joy Moore (Kermit) and Dare Raspberry (C.V.).
John is survived by his son, David McPhail (Pam); Daughters, Donna Kettleman (Philip), Johnna LeVern (Chris), and Dawn Summerhill (Wade); 13 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the 11:30 am Chapel Service at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton, MS. Graveside Service will be held at Ebenezer Cemetery in Edinburg at 1:00 pm. Pallbearers: Matthew Kettleman, Jonathan Alford, Matt Draper, John David McPhail, Michael McPhail, Mitch Draper, and Jacob Braxton.
