John R. Pickens

John Richard Pickens Sr. peacefully passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025 at home. He was 92 years old and had lived a long full life. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Johnnie Elizabeth (Liz) Pickens, his son John Richard Pickens Jr. (Mary C. Pickens), five grandchildren, Randi Parker, Jenni Parker, Stephanie Tatum, Meagan Smith, and John M. Pickens, and nine great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Smith, Danny Smith, Ryland Pickens, Gaige Pickens, Abbey Mazzoni, Savannah Brann, Bradley Meseke, John Michael Parker, and Alissa Parker, as well as numerous other family members. He is preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Denise Pickens, ten brothers and sisters, and numerous other family members.

John spent 26 years in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired as a Master Seargent and settled in Canton, MS where he opened Pickens Plumbing which he owned and operated for 17 years before turning it over to his son.

He was a member of Farmhaven Baptist Church for most of his adult life. He served as a deacon for many years and then as deacon emeritus. Everyone who knew John would describe him as a kind, gentle, and godly man. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be at Breeland Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 10 am until the 11 am chapel service.  Burial will be in Sulpher Springs Cemetery.
