Joyce (Buffalo) Woods

      Joyce Buffalo Woods of St. Catherine’s Village passed from this life into glory on October 18, 2023, at the age of 87. Joyce was born at Canton, MS on March 2, 1936, and graduated from Canton High School in 1954, where she was active in many school activities. In 1954, she married Kline Ozborn, Jr., and for many years was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canton where she was an avid cheerleader of the sanctuary choir and very active in church functions, receiving the Cheek Memorial Award for outstanding church service. In 1994, she married W.T. (Smokey) Woods and moved to Jackson where she became a member of Broadmeadow Methodist Church. She and Smokey actively supported many church and local charities. At her death, she was a member of First United Methodist Church in Canton.

     In the 1960’s, along with her partner Louise Bolding, Joyce owned and operated J-Lou’s of Canton, a women’s clothing store on Canton’s Square. Throughout her adult life she was very active in local social activities with friends and neighbors and frequently entertained in her home. She was an avid golfer for most of her adult life and was a long-time member of the Canton Country Club. She and her husband Smokey frequently played in tournaments around the state with other couples.

     Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Garland H. Buffalo, mother, Beaulah Sledge Buffalo, and sisters Ruth Buffalo Graham and Bobbye Buffalo Perry. She is survived by her sons, Mike Ozborn and his wife, Kathy, and Terry Ozborn and his wife, Deborah, both of Canton. She is also survived by her grandchildren Michael Ozborn, Jr. (Casey), Amanda Ozborn Davis (Matt), and Megan Ozborn McDonald (Chamar), Leslie Ozborn Gowen (Bill), and Jenny Ozborn Tisdale (Greg). Joyce is also survived by ten
great grandchildren.

     A memorial service celebrating the life of Joyce will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday October 21st at First Methodist Church in Canton. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM until the time of service. Breeland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will follow the service at Canton Cemetery in Canton, MS. We would like to thank the entire staff of St. Catherine’s Village for their many years of caring service and friendship to Joyce and her family.
