Margaret Atkinson Christopher

Margaret Christopher peacefully passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Madison County Nursing Home in Canton, Mississippi.  Her family is appreciative of the kindness and comfort shown to our mother by the nursing home staff and Compassus Hospice.  

Margaret was born August 20, 1938, in Carthage, Mississippi.  She is the daughter of the late Rufus and Mary Lee Gill Alford.  She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Ray Atkinson; brothers Edward “Pinky” Alford and James “Buddy” Alford.  

Margaret was a loving mother and grandmother.  She retired from First Baptist Church of Canton, where she was church secretary for over 20 years.  Margaret was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed working on puzzles.

Margaret is survived by her children Cheyenne Atkinson Cosnahan (Henderson), Vanessa Atkinson Smith, and John Alford Christopher (Mandy); grandchildren Anna Cosnahan, Isabel Cosnahan Brissman (Craig), Sarah Smith, and Meredith Smith; three great-grandchildren; and sisters Jean Alford and Elaine Alford Pope (Larry).

A celebration of her life will be held graveside at Corinth Baptist Church Carthage, Ms (Singleton, Ms) on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 11:00am.
