Marianthi “Mary” Kappis Delimitros, age 53, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, daughter, sister, and a friend to all who knew her.
Born on May 14, 1971, in Union City, Tennessee, Mary was the first child of Martha and Ted Kappis. She spent her childhood working alongside her parents in their many restaurants, and her summers were often spent in the beautiful homeland of Greece, where she felt a deep connection to her roots.
Mary graduated with a master’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee at Martin. She was a passionate educator, beloved by her students and peers alike, teaching at Immaculate Conception School, Snowden Elementary and Volunteer State Virtual Academy. Mary’s joyful spirit, infectious smile, and ability to bring out the best in everyone she met made her a truly remarkable person.
Mary was the proud mother of two wonderful children, Evan James of New York City, NY, and Tadd James (Gillian Johnson) of Memphis, TN. She was married to Lefteris Delimitros, a talented artist and loving husband. Her family was the center of her life, and her love for them knew no bounds.
She is survived by her husband, Lefteris Delimitros; children, Evan James and Tadd James; father, Ted Kappis of Jackson, MS; sisters, Yana Kappis of Dunedin, FL, and Effie Kappis Hubanks of Jackson, MS; brother, Sokratis Kappis of Jackson, MS; and nephew, Hudson Hubanks of Jackson, MS. Mary is preceded in death by her mother, Martha Kappis.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, January 14th, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, followed by the service at 10:00 AM. Internment will take place at 4:00 PM at Jessamine Cemetery, Ridgeland, MS.
