Merle Temple Albritton

Merle Temple Albritton, 93, of Canton, MS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Madison County Nursing Home in Canton. Her family is deeply grateful for the loving care provided by the nursing home staff and Traditions Health Hospice, for the comfort they brought to her during her final days.

Born on March 16, 1931, in the Center Hill Community near Meridian, MS, Merle was the daughter of the late George L. and Mrs. Temple. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John W. Albritton; brothers Dewayne Temple (Wilma), Glenn Temple (Montez), George Temple; and sisters Grace Pace (Charles), Walterine Wilson (Pete), and Imogene Riley (Zeno).

Merle is survived by her children, Paul Albritton (Sara), Carol Thomas (Lee), Lisa Mahaffey (Harlon), and David Albritton (Kathryn); her eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Juanita Temple and a host of nieces and nephews.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Merle’s love for her family knew no bounds. She was a constant source of joy, always ready to share her warmth and kindness with anyone she met. Merle had a special way of making everyone feel like family. Even at 91, she would joyfully get on the floor to play with her grandchildren, a testament to her playful spirit and devotion to her loved ones.

Merle was an active member of First Baptist Church of Canton, where she served in various roles, including as church secretary for many years. She enjoyed playing the piano for the other residents and staff at the nursing home, and her love for music brought comfort to those around her. Merle had a deep love for flowers and spent many happy hours tending to her garden. She also enjoyed hosting Disciple Now weekends for the youth and made several mission trips to Honduras and Hong Kong, always eager to serve those in need.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Canton, a place that was dear to her heart.

A celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church Canton on Saturday, January 25th, 2025. Visitation will be held from 1-2pm, with the service following at 2pm. Burial service to follow at Canton City Cemetery.
