Michael C. Smith

Michael Chapman Smith passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. His family is deeply grateful for the loving care and kindness from Dr. Andrew Brown and the staff in the coronary care intensive care unit.

Born on January 24, 1957, Mike was the son of the late James E. Smith and Jean M. Smith. He was also preceded in death by his sister Shirley Smith and brother Rick Smith.

Mike was a loving brother, uncle, and friend. His passion for traveling took him on several European and Hawaiian excursions. His love for the piano was exemplified by his masterful skill playing his prized baby grand piano.

Mike graduated from Canton Academy in 1975 and continued his education at Holmes Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi. He then entered radiology school where he studied to be an x-ray technologist and later furthered his skills to become certified in CT imaging. He retired after 36 years in the medical field. After retirement, Mike looked forward to the times when nephew Lee would call him to help out on different painting jobs. He treasured those days working with nephew Lee and Josh Guillory and they formed a special bond. He loved sending photos to his brother Charles and sister Linda and close friends of the things he had painted and was proud of.

Mike is survived by his brothers, Robert Smith(Judy), and Charles Smith(Donna), and sister Linda Martin(Tommy) and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews who he loved dearly.

There will be a private family graveside service held on February 28, 2025 at the Canton City Cemetery where he will be laid to rest near his parents. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to a charity of your choice.
