Mike was born on September 6, 1957, to Ulysses Howard Harvey, Jr., and Peggy Montgomery Harvey. He grew up in Canton and loved the small town atmosphere it provided. He graduated from Canton Academy in 1975 and was very active in the school playing football and baseball. Mike was blessed with many lifelong friends from his class at Canton Academy. He attended the University of Mississippi and loved every minute of his time there. He returned home to work with his father at Roberts Insurance Agency until August of 2016 when he became ill. He loved sports and sports broadcasting and was the “Voice of the Canton Academy Panthers” for many years. His favorite phrase after a win was “Let’s wrap this one in black and gold!” He was a friend to many and loved to talk, especially about Ole Miss sports. Many of his days were spent visiting with his friends around the Canton square. His favorite pastime was attending Ole Miss sporting events, especially football and baseball with his mother and his best friend Bill Fox.
Mike loved his family. He married Susan Pugh and moved to Brandon but continued to work in Canton. He was widowed in 2006, and he later became engaged to Vanessa Smith, who was a very important part of his family. She spent many days caring for him after he became ill. Mike was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include fiancé Vanessa Atkinson Smith, brother Mark Randall “Bubba” Harvey and sister, Wendy Harvey Perry. He also had two nieces, Seward Montgomery Perry and Mary Russell Perry whom he adored and a great nephew, Reid
Russell Nelson.
The family would like to thank Madison County Nursing Home for caring for Mike and making him feel at home.
