Michael “Mike” Irving McGowan, 73, of Flora, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on September 27, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mike was born on June 1, 1952, in Canton, MS, to the late John Michael McGowan, Jr. and Jewel O’Bannon Rasberry. He spent most of his life in Canton but also resided in Pontotoc for several years, where he worked with the Sheriff’s Department as an investigator and later as Chief Deputy. He later moved to Oxford, MS, and served with the Department of Agriculture and Commerce Theft Bureau. In 2016, he moved to Flora, MS, where he continued his service with the Ag Theft Bureau until his retirement in 2021. Even after retirement, he went back to work for Madison County Sheriff’s Dept as a bailiff.
Throughout his life, Mike was devoted to law enforcement and public service. His dedication and leadership were recognized when he was honored twice with the prestigious “Top Cop” award.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John McGowan (Sandra). He is survived by his three children, JoAnna Warren (Bud), Dendy Blankenship (Michael), and Megan Touchton (Jad); his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Claire Warren, Ty Touchton, and Michael Blankenship; his sister, Mary Lou Richards (Owen); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton, MS. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Breeland Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Concord Cemetery in Pickens, MS.
Pallbearers are Joe Chandler, Tommy Martin, Lesley Childress, Mike Brown, Bud Warren, Michael Blankenship and Jad Touchton. Honorary pallbearers are Ty Touchton and Mikey Blankenship.
Mike will be remembered for his dedication to protecting others, his devotion to family, and his strong faith through life’s challenges.
