Nancy McGowan Stewart entered into her heavenly eternal home on Wednesday, May 5, 2020 at the age of 79.
She was born in Camden, MS on September 7, 1940 and grew up in the Camden community. In the early school years, she used to ride her horse bareback to school. Upon graduation from Canton High School, she attended The University of Southern Mississippi. In 1960, she married James Newland Stewart, Jr. and moved to Canton.
Her family and her faith, along with her friends were the most important things in her life. She loved being involved with all aspects of her childrens' lives, including Cub Scouts and the Canton Swim Team. Later in life, she began bowling and was part of a bowling league. She loved researching her family ancestry and enjoyed sharing that love and history with her children and friends.
Nancy was an active member of the Canton Garden Club, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Sacred Heart Society for many years.
She was retired in 2004 from the Mississippi Employment Security Commission where she served as a State Labor Market Analyst.
Post-retirement, she volunteered her time at St. Francis Catholic Church, "working" in the office, checking mail and greeting visitors.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Emma and J.M. McGowan, sisters Emma Catherine Hayes (Bill) and Dorothy Jean Bruggeman (Bob) and brother J.M. (Buddy) McGowan, Jr.
She is survived by her four children, Jim (Diane), Joe (Ashley), Jeb (Maria) and her loving daughter Sallie Ann Inman (Will). Her life was so full with family and she was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Taylor Stewart, Haley Pennock, Jimmy Stewart (Corinne), Stewart Inman, John Bryant Stewart, Laura Catherine Inman, Mary Grace Stewart, Shelby Stewart, Daniel Inman, Sara Stewart, and 2 great-grandchildren, Lily Mae Stewart and Braxton Pennock.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Beau Ridge Memory Care Center for nurturing her during her time with them.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 9th at 12:15 pm at the Canton Cemetery. Fr. Michael O'Brien will be officiating. Breeland Funeral Home in Canton, MS is in charge of the arrangements.
