Paul Edward Case Jr, 68, of Houston, TX died peacefully at Houston Methodist Hospital, after a lengthy illness on September 23, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.
Paul was born on October 5, 1954 in Canton, MS. He graduated from Mississippi State University, where he played trumpet in the Famous Maroon Band. His love of music led him to work as a radio disc jockey in school, to play trumpet in various bands, and to sing with choirs.
He began his career working for Dempsey Case’s World Marine Company in Houston, TX. He later worked as a project cost accountant for various firms until his retirement.
Paul married Merlin Lilly Clark from Memphis, TN. Throughout their 33 years of marriage, Paul referred to Merlin as the Most Wonderful Wife in the world.
Throughout his life, Paul’s love of God was apparent by his devotion and his involvement in church. Paul was a member of St John Vianney Catholic Church, where he was an usher, money-counter, and known by many. Paul sang in the choir and was a cantor.
Paul was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus. He regularly attended meetings of Memorial Council 6527, where he famously provided the refreshments. He was elected Grand Knight in 1995. He was awarded the Council’s Knight of the Year in 2010, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. He served many years in the Fourth Degree as Faithful Scribe for Assembly 2721 in Katy, TX.
Paul enjoyed life. He loved reading, crossword puzzles, BBQs, friends and family. He also enjoyed hunting, shooting skeet, fishing, and football. He exhibited patriotism and enjoyed a good party. He anticipated his birthday each year, declaring October as “The Month of Paul.” He also loved his dog.
Paul will be missed by multitudes. His booming voice is now resounding in the presence of the Lord. He will live forever in our hearts through fond memories and enduring love.
Paul is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Dickerson Case; maternal grandparents, Mr & Mrs Charles Noel Dickerson; paternal grandparents, Mr & Mrs William Case; nephew, Clayton Edward Stubbs. He is survived by his wife, Merlin Case; father, Paul Edward Case, Sr. of Ridgeland, MS; sister, Connie Case Eatherly (Wick) of Tchula, MS; brother, Charles Dempsey Case (Janice) of Canton, MS; Nephews, Howard Cameron Stubbs (Jessica) of Oxford, MS and Casey Hammond Stubbs (Kaileigh) of Vicksburg, MS; niece, Ava Christine Case of Madison, MS; great nephew, Cannon Howard Stubbs of Vicksburg, MS.

The Case family will be present to receive friends Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Rosary begin recited at 7:00 PM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. A reception will follow holy mass on the church campus.
Visitation in Mississippi will be at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton, MS on October 1, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Goodman, MS at 11:00 AM on October 2, 2023.
