Ray E. Melton

Ray E. Melton, Jr., age 73, of Madison, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024.

Born October 15, 1950, in Attala County, Mississippi, Ray spent his youth in Mississippi and California. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Arizona State University. Later in his career, Ray enrolled at Delta State University and became a Nurse Practitioner. Ray married Sondra Melton in November of 1993. In Madison, Mississippi, Sondra and Ray grew their family together. 

Ray was known to his colleagues, residents, nurses, and patients as a compassionate, caring Nurse Practitioner. Ray retired in December 2023. During his 40 plus years of service to the public, he touched thousands of lives.

He is survived by his wife Sondra Melton, Madison, MS; son Ethan Melton, Mount Pleasant, MI; son Matt and daughter-in-law Francine Melton, Kosciusko, MS; sister Yvonne “Evie” Maguire; brother Wayne Melton; brothers-in-law Daniel Jackson, Bellaire, TX, and Matthew Jackson, Meridian, ID; and nephew Jody McKnight, McKinney, TX. Ray was preceded in death by his parents Claudine Rhodes and Ray Melton Senior.
