Sarah Frances Carr Lenoir, 80, of Ridgeland, MS died peacefully with her two daughters by her side on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
Sarah was a longtime resident of the Jackson area where she and her husband, James, raised their family.
Sarah, the daughter of Harold and Frankie Carr, was born and raised in McComb, MS. She retired from a long of career of teaching in 1992. She had a true love for teaching children of all ages. She began her career in1963 in the Greenville, MS Public School System. She then moved to McComb Public Schools. After relocating to Jackson, she took some time off to focus on raising her children and then returned to teaching preschool at Fondren Learning Center for seven years. She substituted in many Jackson Public Schools and finished her career teaching second grade at Bradley Elementary. Even after retiring she continued to work with children teaching them to read.
Sarah received her degree in Elementary Education from the Mississippi University for Women in 1963. In 1992, she received a Masters of Education from Mississippi College. She was also involved in many professional educational organizations and workshops.
Sarah was a longtime member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church where she held many roles including teaching Sunday School for many years. She was involved in several outreach programs including Meals on Wheels, Billy Brumfield House, Operation Shoestring and Vacation Bible School for inner city children. She was also a member of The BriarWoods Kindergarten Board. An avid lover of flowers, Sarah served on the Flower Committee for many years. She gave her time and talents in many different ways, including arranging flowers for church services, weddings and special occasions. She was also an integral part in the design and execution of multiple banners for the sanctuary. She was very proud to receive her Honorary Life Membership to the Presbyterian Women organization.
Over the years, she was an active supporter of several community organizations including Goodwill Auxiliary, American Red Cross (First Aid Instructor), Girl Scouts of America (Leader and Council Planning Committee), Jackson Symphony League, American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
Sarah was devoted to her family and friends and was always willing to help anyone in need. Later in life, she enjoyed spending time with her two grandchildren (and granddogs) and her great niece and nephew. She loved being with them attending birthday parties, sports activities, school plays and grandparent days.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband James Stewart Lenoir. She is survived by her daughters Chalise (Tim) O’Quinn of Ridgeland and Amy Lenoir of Madison; grandchildren Bennett and Ainsley O’Quinn; nephew Chris (Amy) Lenoir of Clinton; brother Lynwood (Beverly) Carr of McComb; sister Kay Smith of Ocean Springs; brother-in-law John (Candy) Lenoir; brother-in-law Scott (Harriett) Lenoir and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 9-11 a.m at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in the fellowship hall. Immediately following visitation, a service will be held in the church sanctuary. Interment will follow at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland, MS.
Memorials may be given to Briarwood Presbyterian Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice.
