Susanna M Orr

Susanna Mize Orr, age 84, passed on Monday, February 24, 2025 surrounded by family at her home in Brandon, MS. 

Susanna dedicated her life to shaping young minds. Starting her career in the public school sector she traveled with students across the USA and neighboring countries.  Later moving to the private school sector where she continued her travels to other countries with students and close friends. She had a passion for history which she taught with love and enthusiasm. She earned a Master’s degree, lead City Council, Mock Trials, Close-Up groups, among other things, before retiring from Jackson Preparatory School as the Chairman of the History Department and Lead Teacher. There isn’t time to list all of her accomplishments and super human feats. Just the mention of her name calls to mind the superhero she was to all who knew her. Susanna loved being outdoors watching the birds and planting flowers. She ran countless races like the Mississippi Blues, Sherry’s Run, Carnival Classic, and the MS Breast Cancer run, earning many medals and making life long memories. Susanna was known as Mom, Grandma, Aunt Susie, G-maw, GG-maw and Shu Shu-maw.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, and a grandson. She is survived by her husband, four children, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Susanna’s memorial service will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Fannin Methodist Church in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm followed
by a short service.
