Elsie Hart Johnson

Elsie Allyne Hart (Lyon) Johnson, 87, died Friday, December 08, 2017.  Visitation will be at Breeland Funeral Home on Monday, December 11, 2017 from 12:00 pm until the 2:00 pm chapel service.  Burial will be in the Canton Cemetery.

Born September 1, 1930 in Canton, MS, she was the only child of Eunice Wilder Hart and Elijah Henry (Tobe) Hart.

Elsie graduated from Canton High School, received her B.S. degree from Delta State University and her M.A. Degree from The University of Mississippi.  She taught school in Yazoo, Madison, and Clinton Public Schools.

While residing in Yazoo City, she was past president of the Four Seasons Garden Club, Annie Ellis PTA and Senior State President of the Children of the American Revolution and a member of the Yazoo Chapter of D.A.R.

After moving to Deerfield Country Club in Madison County, she was organizing president of the Deerfield Bridge Club.  She was past president of Casual Bridge Club and LeMidi Bridge Club.  She taught Bridge at Colonial Country Club and her friends say “she enjoyed squeezing more tricks out of a bridge hand than anyone we know”.  She was past Regent of the Doaks Treaty Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century.  She was past president of the Madison County Republican Women and served for several years on the Executive Committee of the Madison County Republican Party.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her first husband, Gaston Gordin Lyon and second husband, Luther Campbell Johnson.

Survivors include: three sons, Hart Lyon and wife Karen of Madison, Edd Lyon and wife Robbin of Gluckstadt, and Lee Anthony Lyon and wife Carolyn of Jackson; 9 grandchildren, Grace, Kristen, Megan, Denyse, Blake, Jennifer, Mark, Chris, and Scott Lyon; and 10 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her step-granddaughter, Jennifer Grannan and her husband Dick of Florence and their three children.
